Opportunity Description:

The Loaded Ladle provides accessible, sustainable, locally-sourced free food on the Dalhousie University campus. Our collective of students and workers manages this alternative food service. We also offer events and activities which critically examine barriers to food sovereignty, food security, and food justice. Throughout summer, we serve food every Wednesday. So every week we need help in the kitchen to help us prepare and serve food! We have 3 volunteers in the kitchen at a time. You can sign up for a block in the morning (9:30-11:30) or in the afternoon (11:45-2:00) on Tuesdays, Wednesdays. We will have more serving days and more volunteer opportunities come September. To get started, please attend a safety orientation! Just e-mail volunteer@loadedladle.com with your e-mail, phone number, and an idea of your availability, and our volunteer coordinator will tell you when the next orientation is (or plan one that works!). We do them twice a month, typically. Volunteers might end up cutting potatoes, carrots, onions, more onions, and, oh yes, onions. Or, you might be making cake batter, or preparing salads. Around lunchtime, you might be in charge of handing out food boxes to people over the counter. At the end of the day we tidy up with some cleaning! All the activities of the Loaded Ladle take place on unceded and unsurrendered Mi’kmaq territory. We endeavour in our activities to respect the treaties of this land, and to align our practices with those of the current protectors of Mi’kmaki.
