JDRF Canada (Sun Life Walk to Cure Diabetes for JDRF-Event Day volunteer)

Volunteer at this year’s Sun Life Walk to Cure Diabetes for JDRF, the largest fundraising event in Canada to support type 1 diabetes (T1D) research.  On Sunday, June 11th we need the support of our committed volunteers to help make the day a success!  Location:  Dewolf Park, 150 Waterfront Dr., Bedford, Nova Scotia, B4A 4J4 Time:  From 8:00am to 2:00PM for the full day but times will be assigned. We have a variety of roles for both youth and adult volunteers. Roles will be allocated up to the day of event, here’s some examples of the types of roles.  Set Up Crew  The set up crew will assist in setting up tables & chairs within the tents (note some heavy lifting required), and hanging banners.     Volunteer greeter crew These volunteers will be in the volunteer tent to greet volunteers, give them their t-shirts and answer questions pertaining to their roles. Greeter Crew  Become part of the Greeter Crew where you will warmly greet our walkers, ensure they have completed a waiver and direct them to the appropriate registration areas.  Participant Registration As part of the Registration Crew you will ensure pledge forms are filled out correctly, confirm offline donations are correct and waiver forms are filled out.  Note we are going “CASHLESS” this year and training will be provided to use the Moneris machines in place of cash.  This role is for volunteers over the age of 18. Refreshment Crew  Become part of the Refreshment Crew and help us set up the refreshment tent.  You will distribute prepackaged snacks and drinks throughout the day, monitor their levels and replenish them as needed.  Kids Zone Crew  This role will assist in the kid activities space (may include: temporary tattoo application, frisbee toss, bubble creators etc.)  Route Marshalls Assist with directing participants along the walk route. This role includes cheering on the walkers, ensuring people can navigate the site and handing out water and snacks to participants when required Clean up Crew  This role will consist of a team of volunteers who will roam around the site, ensuring surfaces are sanitized and the site is kept clean of debris and garbage.  Replacing garbage bins that are full and ensuring bottles and juice boxes are placed in blue bags.   Tear Down Crew  We need your help after the walk to take down the event.  The take down crew will occur from 2-4pm.  Note: some heavy lifting will be required in this role.   What you bring to this role We’re seeking reliable individuals who will ensure participants have an amazing experience at this year’s Walk.  If you have the following attributes, we want to hear from you: Excellent customer service skills A willingness to help where needed most Flexible and adaptable Able to problem-solve and seek support when needed Able to volunteer outdoors rain or shine   Benefits  In addition to supporting an amazing event raising funds to support cutting edge research, volunteers will receive: A T-shirt on event day Confirmation of volunteer hours Lunch Meet new people and have fun!   Physical Requirements There will be long periods of standing and walking involved with volunteering if you need any accommodations to comfortably volunteer please email: rsarasua@jdrf.ca We thank all applicants for their interest and support. JDRF is an equal opportunity workplace committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive environment in which to work and volunteer.  If you require accommodation at any point in the recruitment process, please contact volunteers@jdrf.ca
