Our entrepreneurial start-up environment offers volunteers the opportunity to learn a wide range of skills, including strategic planning, program design and interdisciplinary research for civil society engagement.    GLOCAL Foundation of Canada is a non-for-profit organization that strives to provide innovative programs and cross-disciplinary resources to help Canadians better engage in public policy making and problem-solving. GLOCAL advances this mission of strengthening local-global understanding through research, events, and training programs.    YouCount.ca is GLOCAL’s flagship project to promote civic engagement and democratic participation. Our digital platform facilitates Canadians in navigating Canadian politics and direct engagement with their political representatives at three levels of governments.    Job Description   We are looking for individuals who identify as First Nations, Metis or Inuit to support us in engagement with Indigenous communities in Canada on the objectives of our Youcount.ca platform.   Scope of the responsibilities:  Building relationships and establishing dialogue with indigenous organizations to better understanding the perspectives of indigenous peoples on civic engagement and democratic participation in Canada Providing recommendations on partnerships with indigenous organizations to enhance indigenous participation in  the activities of GLOCAL and YouCount.ca Conducting research on indigenous governance with a view to incorporating indigenous political leadership in the YouCount.ca platform in a respectful and culturally relevant way  Providing support for GLOCAL’s social media engagement, creating infographics and producing short videos on relevant issues.  Other activities relevant to the mission of GLOCAL and YouCount.ca    Special arrangements can be made for online group volunteering with collaborative tasks for schoolers.   Qualifications: Successful applicants will have the following qualifications: Good oral and written communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills. A passion for creative writing, community engagement and partnerships development. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Excel. Strong intercultural understanding.  Ability to meet deadlines and thrive in a fast-paced, flexible working environment. Ability to work both independently and within a team environment. Professionalism, punctuality, and reliability.    Hours Per Week: This is a remote role and the volunteer is expected to dedicate 5-10hrs/week. Accommodation for flexible start date can be made. A minimum of 3 months commitment is required.   Supervision: The successful candidate will work with the executive team of the Foundation. Ongoing support and mentorship will be offered by the Manager to ensure holistic development of the volunteer in capacities relevant to the job. A weekly meeting will be scheduled for the volunteer to receive support and direction, as well as targeted opportunities and guidance for personal growth and development, such as future career planning.
