Opportunity Description:

Bladder Cancer is the 5th most common cancer (4th most common in men) , yet it is 18th among all cancers in terms of funding for research. It is among the least understood cancers and most expensive to treat due to an 80% recurrence rate. As a Walk Volunteer, you will be responsible for helping in aspects of planning and executing a fundraising and awareness walk in the City of Halifax. QUALIFICATIONS: • Some knowledge of bladder cancer (personal or otherwise) is an asset but not a necessity. • Passion for volunteering for those living and thriving with bladder cancer • Motivated, dependable and trustworthy • Excellent communication skills • Email accessibility and a moderate level of computer skills RESPONSIBILITIES: • Aid the Walk Lead in hosting a walk in your region which includes planning leading up to the walk and all aspects of execution on the day of the event • Promoting the walk in your locale with materials which that will be provided • Maintain records of your planning activities • Attend the walk itself and aid in overseeing aspects of the day in September 2014 (registration, t-shirt hand out, setting up walk materials) TRAINING: • Extensive support is provided by your Walk Lead, National Walk Chair, BCC’s Executive Director and other members of the Walk national team members BENEFITS TO VOLUNTEERS: • Opportunity to learn more about bladder cancer and to share knowledge and experience to help others in the community • Opportunity to develop and practice event planning and communication skills • Opportunity to meet new people and network • Gratification in knowing you are helping others
