Opportunity Description:

Combine your research and people skills in the name of Greening School Grounds!Evergreen’s Learning Grounds Program helps bring Nature and food gardens to schools. The creation of outdoor play and learning spaces provides students with a healthy, natural and creative outdoor environments. The growing interest in greening school grounds has led to the need for additional funds to help schools fulfill their vision for their school ground greening. A new position focusing on locating funding prospects would allow a greater number of Nova Scotian schools to participate in installing the greening features they dream of. Children benefit. The Evergreen Fundraising Researcher would be responsible for researching, contacting and confirming the availability of funding opportunities for public schools provincially and locally for each of the eight school boards. What you bring: You’re very organized and detail oriented. You work well independently and are good at managing your time. You have courteous phone skills, excellent oral and written communication skills and speak English fluently (with an ability to speak french as an asset). You have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Power Point), or OpenOffice (Writer, Calc, Presentation). Experience with and/or knowledge of funding sources for non-profit organizations, charities and/or schools in Nova Scotia an asset. When and where: 4-12 hours per week, based on the volunteer’s availability on agreed-upon day(s), from the end of September through to end of October. You will be working out of the Nova Scotia Department of Education and Early Childhood Development Office, 2021 Brunswick St, 4th floor, Halifax. Some aspects of the work could be done from home. How we’ll support you: You will receive a general Evergreen orientation with our Program Coordinator as well as on the job training and support with the School Ground Greening Consultant. You will be introduced to school board staff and other funding programs in NS as an Evergreen Funding Researcher. Evergreen will also send you regular volunteer news to keep you in the loop. Perks: This is a great opportunity to gain insight into both non-profit and provincial government infrastructure, programming and office settings. Through the research process, you will also gain an understanding of multiple government departments as well as private sector links in NS. Coffee/tea provided, along with reference letter, if requested.
