Trade School Halifax (Core Team Member and Coordinator)

We are looking for a passionate and reliable core team member for TRADE SCHOOL HALIFAX. Trade School is a little organisation that’s all about sharing skills and knowledge and building community. We are going into our 3rd year here in Halifax, but belong to a global network of Trade Schools (check out tradeschool.coop). Our goal is to bring community members together to teach workshops, based on a barter system and in venues across the peninsula. People from all backgrounds, abilities and ages are invited to both share their skills and learn from others. We believe that everybody has something to offer and want to support people in supporting each other. We are currently a team of four people and are looking for two additional members. The overall purpose of this position is to coordinate Trade School Halifax and to help it grow. It is important to create spaces where people can teach, learn and to build community. Are you looking for a fulfilling volunteer opportunity, with tonnes of freedom to develop the project? Are you passionate about free, non-institutional education? Are you creative, reliable and dedicated to improving our communities? The ideal Trade School Team Member must have the following: PASSION Reliability Creativity and innovation A willingness to learn Basic Computer Skills Flexibility and adaptability Approx.. 10-15 h a month Good oral and written communication skills Ideally experience with coordinating a project Responsibilities: The tasks listed here are divided between all team members. The duties are flexible at the discretion of the team. It really depends on everybody’s interests! We are working as a collective, considering everybody’s passions and skills as much as we can. Check and respond to emails regularly Create monthly schedules Coordinate teachers and venues Utilize social media platforms (facebook & twitter) Creation of monthly newsletters Maintaining the website (this is easier than it sounds!) Finding new teachers, new venues and new partnerships Attending workshops (at least 2 each month): Not all venues are accessible so the team member must be mobile within HRM. Grant writing and grant report Extended and creative outreach, developing Trade School, bringing in new ideas (example: obtaining bus tickets to increase Trade School’s accessibility)   Are you interested?
