Green Burial Society of Nova Scotia Volunteer Opportunity Green Burial Society of Nova Scotia (GBSNS) is on its way to incorporating as a nonprofit organization. The vision of our Society is that green burial and other eco-friendly disposition practices are the preferred choice for Nova Scotians. GBSNS works to raise awareness and accessibility of green burial options in Nova Scotia. Through education and advocacy we help Nova Scotians understand and recognize the environmental benefits of green burial. Green burial is the act of returning a body as naturally as possible to the earth using less energy and resources, making it lower impact than conventional burials or cremation. Green burials are also less toxic, reduce carbon emissions, and protect worker health. Green burial minimizes environmental impacts, conserves and can even restore or preserve natural ecosystems. It offers an opportunity to carry one’s living values into death. POSITION DESCRIPTION As the Communications Committee Lead you will bring your love of storytelling, technology and the environment together to develop the GBSNS brand in Nova Scotia. We are looking for a motivated, innovative and self-directed team player. This is a volunteer Board position that reports to the Board. TIME COMMITMENT 8-10 hours month TERM OF OFFICE Two years RESPONSIBILITIES: Design and execute a communications/social media campaign plan using Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter to raise the GBNS profile in Nova Scotia Research current social media trends of similar organizations for content ideas Create social media content for fundraising campaigns and events. Monitor and interact with social media account followers. Schedule and post content to all social media accounts. Maintain media contact list and coordinate and distribute press releases Oversee and guide volunteers in ongoing communication/social media projects QUALIFICATIONS: Experience managing business social media pages, including Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong confidence in public speaking Proficient with Microsoft Office and Facebook Business Suite A clear understanding and a commitment to the mission of GBSNS Ability to attend monthly evening meetings Valid driver’s license Preferably at least one year of relevant experience of working with a nonprofit Board For more information, please contact Theresa Farrell, Volunteer Co-Coordinator theresafarrell1099@gmail.com
