Along with most of the country, the CNIB Foundation’s offices are closed and we’re all trying to do things a little differently. As a result, we have expanded our free virtual program offerings (e.g. career support, tech training, book clubs, youth groups) for Canadians impacted by blindness. We are also recruiting for a few new volunteer roles all of which can be completed from home or without breaking any social distancing requirements. If you’re interested in helping out during this challenging and uncertain time, please consider volunteering for one of the following positions: Participant Caller As we continue to offer a variety of phone programs, our potential participants without emails require promotional calls to notify them of up-coming programs and to share with them the call-in phone number. We are looking for volunteer callers who could take a list and call people from their home weekly with up-coming events. Phone-a-Friend Coordinator The CNIB Foundation in Nova Scotia is exploring offering our members a Phone-a-Friend program that would form small groups out of our interested members to individually call each other for socialization and connection. We are looking for a volunteer coordinator who could help interested members fill in the registration over the phone and then identify groups of people that would connect well. Grocery Delivery While some of our Vision Mates are already delivering pre-ordered groceries for their matches, we’re looking to identify a few people in communities across Nova Scotia who would be willing to pick up and drop off pre-ordered groceries for people who don’t have anyone else. Guest Speaker The CNIB Foundation is seeking partnerships with museums, wellness professionals, and other experts to offer our members one-time presentations over Zoom Meetings and teleconference calls. These presentations would be 25 – 45 minutes in length, be interested and relevant to people living with sight loss, and would be offered to people across the country. *** Next Steps Interested in volunteering for one of these positions?
