Opportunity Description:

Volunteer Position: Good Food Café Volunteer Facilitator ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE: The Good Food Café Volunteer Facilitator reports directly to the Food Skills Coordinator. We believe that the relationship between Staff and Volunteer should be one of mutual respect and confidence. GOOD FOOD CAFÉ PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: The Good Food Cafe program is held every Saturday alongside our low cost produce Market. The café serves to build interest, skills and knowledge around healthy food preparation, café operations, and hospitality. The café relies on community volunteers to prepare the majority of the food in advance, the day before service. The Good Food Cafe Volunteer Facilitator works to create a positive social and learning environment for volunteer community participants in the kitchen. S/he facilitates the delivery of the Good Food Cafe program together with other staff and volunteers. DUTIES OF THE GOOD FOOD CAFÉ VOLUNTEER FACILITATOR: Facilitate weekly Good Food Café preparation sessions (held on Friday afternoons) in coordination with other staff and volunteers Facilitate weekly operations of Good Food Café (held on Saturday mornings) in coordination with other staff and volunteers Build relationships with participants using a strengths based approach Ensure all participants are practicing safe food handling at all times Assist in the organization of equipment and ingredients during each program Assist in the following of recipes, demonstrate techniques etc. Carry out other duties required to deliver quality programming GENERAL REQUIREMENTS: Adhere to the policies and procedures of the Dartmouth North Community Food Centre Complete volunteer application and required documentation Ability and skill to work sensitively with those experiencing poverty and food insecurity Punctual and dependable, please contact if unable to attend Ability to work as part of a team The ability to respect the confidentiality of information regarding program participants, children and staff HOW TO APPLY: Email Melissa Rankin, Food Skills Coordinator for DNCFC at mrankin@dartmouthfamilycentre.ca with your interest and contact information for follow up.
