To establish a trusting relationship, volunteers must be able to make contact via e-mail or phone once a week and visit at least once a month. Suggested ‘friendship’ activities may include: phone calls, spending time over a shared interest such as watching movies or sports, chatting over a cup of coffee, visiting a mall, or anything that is of mutual interest. It’s up to you! The position is intended to develop into long term friendships and social relationships between the volunteer and the stroke survivor. This assists in the rehabilitation process, and creates a powerful positive impact in the life of the stroke survivor.
