Description: Do you want to create change in your community? Connect with other young people and other community organization in your city? We got you! RISE is designed for young people with little to no previous experience in volunteering. We mean it! You don’t need to have ANY previous experience. During 22 weeks, as Ambassadors, you will develop new skills (Project management, collective decision making, teambuilding, budgeting, research), learn about community engagement, and develop a project on a sub-theme that matters to you. You will also have access to mentors and various workshops during the program. The theme for COHORT 11 is RESILIENT CITIES. From accessibility to arts, infrastructure, and green spaces to civic engagement, resilient cities are about developing spaces, activities, and initiatives that can lead local communities to thrive. If you're aged between 18 to 30, this is your chance to learn about community work, build confidence and make new connections in a supportive environment. Students Volunteering with Seniors ("Open Minds, Open Hearts" Program)

Description: Open Minds, Open Hearts (OMOH) is a two-year project which aims to create awareness and reduce the stigma of dementia by fostering social cohesion and a sense of belonging among college students, people living with dementia (PLWD) and their care partners. This project is a collaboration between three colleges across Canada, including the College of New Caledonia in British Columbia, École nationale de cirque (National Circus School) in Quebec, and Conestoga College in Ontario. OMOH will consist of student-led programs hosted by each college. People living with dementia and their caregivers will participate in weekly engagement sessions led by students. These intergenerational group activities will highlight various subjects including culinary arts, celebrating culture, languages and the arts, exploring nature, and promoting physical well-being. Description: Volunteer Opportunity: Board member, Halifax Community Chaplaincy Society  The Halifax Community Chaplaincy Society works with individuals who are transitioning from incarceration to community. By working with former offenders, we seek to ease their transition into community and to reduce recidivism. Our twin principles are: “No more victims” and “No one is disposable”. Our two main programs (both supported through federal funding) are: Faith Community Re-Integration Program (FCRP) acts as bridge for former offenders who wish to establish, or re-establish, relationships with faith communities. Circles of Support and Accountability (CoSA). Grounded in restorative justice principles, CoSA reduces sexual victimization by assisting people who have been incarcerated for sexual offences and are being released into the community. We are looking for committed individuals to join our volunteer Board. We welcome individuals from any faith background who view issues of criminality and incarceration through the multiple lenses of compassion, support, re-integration and accountability. We welcome inquiries from anyone interested and are particularly seeking individuals who might consider taking on (with support from the existing Board) the role of Vice-Chair or Secretary to the Board. Description: Location: Roseau, Dominica Start Date: January 2023 Placement Length: 10 Months Language Requirements: English Level 4-Advanced Open to Canadian Citizens and Permanent Residents of Canada Only The Volunteer’s Role The overall purpose of the placement is to strengthen the capacity of the Gender Division to implement gender equality and social inclusion (GESI) into its policies, programs and services that meet the needs and rights of women and vulnerable groups, including the prevention of Gender-Based Violence. As a volunteer, you will support the capacity strengthening of staff through training on gender equality mainstreaming including the development of monitoring and evaluation tools for GESI integration into programming. You will serve as the gender expert to mainstream gender equality across the broader ministry and other ministries. BLUEPRINTS is being implemented in four countries: Dominica, Grenada, St Lucia and St. Vincent & the Grenadines. You will work in close collaboration with 3 other Gender Experts in Grenada, St. Lucia and St. Vincent & the Grenadines. You will also work with a local In Country Program Support Officer to coordinate support to the Gender Divisions and ministries. As a volunteer, you will: Conduct an assessment of staff capacity to implement gendered policies, programs and services Support the development and training resources and conduct training sessions with staff from various ministries, departments & agencies (MDAs) on gender equality mainstreaming into their programs using a human-rights-based approach. Support the development and implementation of gender policies and GBV-related policies. Support the development of GESI/RBA indicators to monitor and report on the effectiveness of program implementation (beyond sex-disaggregated data). Support the updating of the centre's monitoring and evaluation system to measure the program’s impact, progress and tracking of participant development. As an Education Assistant, you will work in the classroom to provide your knowledge as an educator, share your experiences about the world, inspire students to learn and pursue further education, and encourage students to believe they can become who they aspire to be! You will help facilitate the e-learning program for students in grades 4-12 where you will connect your classroom to a network of other classrooms in various schools in Northern Canada also facilitated by other Education Assistants like yourself. You will work directly with assigned teachers (including the host teacher), participate in activities both inside and outside the classroom, and be engaged with the community through intercultural events throughout the school year. If you are a self-motivated individual with an interest in teaching, learning about indigenous cultures, and being involved with the community, then this is the placement for you! Halifax MS Walk- Committee Members

Canadians come together in their communities every May to fundraise for and participate in MS Walk to help find the cause and cure for this disease. As part of the MS Walk Committee you will plan and execute an inclusive, engaging event to connect and empower the MS community in your region. MS impacts all Canadians, which is why we urge people to move forward together at MS Walk and help build awareness for the disease, raising much needed funds to allow us to continue to support people affected by MS. This is a great opportunity to make an impact in your community using your talent and time. MS Walk Stewardship Coordinator The Stewardship Coordinator plays a key role in recruiting individuals and teams to take part in the Walk. In this role, you would be responsible for working with the MS Walk coordinator to ensure that all participants are being stewarded. This will include phone calls as well as emails to local participants. MS Walk Promotions Coordinator The Promotions Coordinator will help get the word out about your local MS Walk through a variety of local marketing and promotions mediums. You will have the opportunity to connect with media sponsors, engage in social media posting, write articles, put up posters, and be creative in how we engage your community in Walk. MS Walk Sponsorship Coordinator The Sponsorship Coordinator is responsible for stewarding the participation of local sponsors to enhance the event experience and keep event costs as low as possible. Through your work as the Sponsorship Coordinator, you will ensure more funds raised go directly to creating a world free of MS. MS Walk Volunteer Coordinator The Volunteer Coordinator will work closely with the team at the MS Society to ensure we have support from a fantastic group of Day of Event Volunteers. You will have the opportunity to connect with your local community to recruit enough volunteers to fill various volunteer roles and instruct them on event day. MS Walk Route Coordinator The Route Coordinator plays a key role in ensuring our participants have an enjoyable, accessible, and safe route to experience during the event. As the local route expert, your advance planning and execution of Route Coordinator responsibilities on event day will ensure a fabulous event experience for all Walk participants. Lead route signage MS Walk Entertainment Coordinator The Entertainment Coordinator plays an important role in shaping the participant experience on site and on route. This includes organizing entertainment and activities/games and managing the “main stage” and finish line experience to create a positive and memorable event experience for MS Walk participants. Time Commitment: ● Long term (November– June). Hours will vary based on the size of your community event. Hours will increase as the event approaches. We estimate these roles will take between 1 –3 hours per month. ● Meet online via Teams once or twice a month ● Must be available to attend the event at the end of May for approximately 8 hours.
