Parker Street Food Bank provides help to people in need. We are a food and furniture bank, but strongly believe in the adage, “Give a man a fish and he eats for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime”. Some of the opportunities for self-sufficiency have included courses in flooring installation, windows and doors installation, automotive parts clerk, siding, carpenter’s assistant training and basic computer skills. We also provide back packs filled with school supplies for young students in September and at Christmas time we provide the ingredients for a traditional turkey dinner as well as toys for the wee ones. We also operate an Emergency Fund to help those in financial crisis, such as helping with utility or heating bills.

Growth of the soul is our goal, and there are many ways to encourage that growth, such as through love, nature, healing our wounds, forgiveness, and service. The soul grows well when giving and receiving love. I nourish my soul daily by loving others and being vulnerable to their love. Love is, after all, a verb, an action word, not a noun.
