Laing House is a peer support organization for youth living with mental illness, where members can embrace their unique gifts and find their way in a caring and supportive environment. Laing House youth are between 16 and 30 years of age and have a diagnosis of mood disorder, psychosis, and/or anxiety disorder.

Laing House is a youth-driven, community-based organization where young people who are living with a mental illness can get the support they need to rebuild their lives. Since opening in 2001, Laing House has assisted hundreds of youth to continue on their path to recovery.

I interviewed my dad on video in his final weeks. When I asked about his work and finding meaning through helping others, he responded, “I don’t think you can be focused on, ‘Oh gee, I want to make a difference.’ It has to be spontaneous. If it’s not…there’s some kind of egotistical thing going on. That’s a red flag. You hope you impact people on the deepest level you are capable of at the time.
