-Foundational governance concepts – this is the Governance 101 course you have been looking for!
-How to have a great relationship with your Executive Director, and how to assess their performance effectively
-How to read and understanding financial statements
-How to anticipate and manage various types of risks that could impact the organization, or create liability for you as a director
-How to manage the board’s work more effectively, to avoid volunteer burnout and make better decisions
-Governance “red flags” and what to do if the organizations you serve face financial difficulties, or issues related to conflicts of interest, safeguarding of vulnerable people, fraud, or other complicated situations.

FEES
We have adopted a fee scale that allows us to subsidize registration costs for smaller organizations and those with fewer resources:

Individuals and organizations with annual budgets of $249k or less = $399 per person
Organizations with annual budgets of $250k to $750k = $549 per person
Organization with annual budgets of $750-$2 M = $899 per person
Organizations with annual budgets of $2M or more = $1199
Your registration fees includes all course materials for both days, light lunches and refreshments, and ongoing support in our Better Boards! community of practice.

ABOUT US

Better Boards! Live is a social enterprise based in Halifax that has a mission to design and deliver exceptional quality, affordable director training for Canada’s non-profit boards.

Kathryn Cosgrove MBA CMC Founder & Lead Facilitator has worked every day with boards of all shapes and sizes for over 20 years. She receives frequent calls from boards in trouble or with complicated governance matters, and have learned that only a small percentage of nonprofit directors have access to affordable, high-quality director training.

That’s why Kathryn has designed the Better Boards! program, and brings it to you at an affordable rate in collaboration with our corporate friends who are equally committed to building capacity in the nonprofit sector: Deloitte, ADP Canada, Board HealthScore and McInnis Cooper.

Kathryn holds an MBA from London School of Economics and NYU Stern Business School, and a Bachelor of Arts from Dalhousie University. She is also a Certified Management Consultant.
