Nonprofit Director Training

Better Boards! Live is Nova Scotia’s newest nonprofit board training program. It is designed for both new and experienced board directors, whether or not they are currently serving on a nonprofit board. We also accept Executive Directors that want to learn more about the board’s perspective and how to better engage with it, as well as those who are interested in board work but have not yet been appointed to a board.

Here’s what you will learn:
• A solid foundation (or refresher!) in core governance concepts — the board’s #1 job, and your role as a board member; key governance processes and policies every board should have in place
• How you can feel more prepared, ask great questions on every topic, and increase your impact as a board member
• How to read financial statements and improve your understanding of finance, risk, strategy and other important governance topics
• How to spot governance “red flags,” conflicts, and risks — and what great boards do to solve them.

The Better Boards! Live program will be held in-person at:
Dates: Wednesday September 21 and Thursday, September 22, 2022
Time: 9:00-4:30pm each day.
Location: North Magazine, Halifax Citadel National Historic Site
Subsidized pay parking is available onsite.

What’s Included with My Registration Fee?
Our corporate sponsors have generously provided funding to offset most of the fees to participants. Your subsidized registration fee of $249 plus applicable taxes, will include course fees for both days of training, as well as all materials, light lunches, refreshments, and ongoing support through the Better Boards! Community of Practice. Seating is extremely limited.
