For All The Saints – a concert featuring the Requiem by Pierre de la Rue

A CANADIAN PREMIERE OF A 500-YEAR-OLD PIECE

The University of King’s College Chapel Choir, under the direction of Grammy award-winning musician Paul Halley, will kick off its 2014-15 King’s at the Cathedral concert series with a Canadian premiere performance of a 500-year-old piece, the Requiem Mass by 15th-century composer Pierre de la Rue (1452 – 1518). De la Rue was the leading composer at the Burgundy-Habsburg court during the golden age of medieval polyphony and his Requiem evokes the majesty and mystery of that time. Composed around 1500, the piece is one of the earliest polyphonic requiem masses to survive to this day.

The performance will showcase period instruments alongside the singers and will put the architectural features and hidden spaces of All Saints Cathedral to full use. will also feature music for the season by Renaissance composers di Lasso and Palestrina, and 20th-century composers Elgar, Pärt, and Halley himself.

Tickets for the Halifax performance are $15 student(***BUT SEE SPECIAL DEAL BELOW), $20 general, $40 priority, and $100 patron and are available in advance at http://www.kingschapelchoir.eventbrite.ca or from the King’s Co-op Bookstore at 902.422.1270 ext. 261.
