Community Service Activities

Looking for ideas to help out around your community? Why not give some of the following a try – they range from simple five minute activities to longer term ones.
  • donate old books/textbooks to your local library (i.e., pass on the gift of knowledge);
  • clean out your closet and give clothes to your local goodwill centre;
  • share/post pictures of your community on the Internet (i.e., encourage others to visit your community);
  • remove old posters from that light pole or mural you pass everyday on the way to work;
  • stop hoarding those plastic bags and return them to your local grocery store (and then start using your reusable grocery bags);
  • pick up one piece of litter everyday – there’s some in your ditch, stuck to your fence, or flying around your local park;
  • give someone a hug – everyone needs a hug; and/or
  • hold a garage sale and donate the proceeds (including leftovers) to a local charity.
There are many many other ideas to give back to your community. Check out this list of 50 activities to help you get started: https://www.teenlife.com/blogs/articles/50-community-service-ideas-teen-volunteers.
Remember that the happiest people are not those getting more, but those giving more.
