Opportunity Description:

Support Nova Scotia schools in their endeavour to green their school grounds! Evergreen’s programming for Children seeks to increase the number of opportunities young people have to interact with Nature, and to help establish a greater connection with the outdoor world for youth growing up in a city environment. Through outdoor education and school ground greening, Evergreen works with students, teachers, parents and communities to engage young Canadians in discovering their natural surroundings This Fall the Evergreen Toyota Learning Grounds Program and the Nova Scotia Department of Education and Early Childhood Development will host an autumn workshop series for schools throughout Nova Scotia. These workshops will provide continued support for schools that are creating engaging outdoor learning environments. The Workshop Assistant will play an important role in the preparation, set-up and hosting of the workshops. This will include tasks such as assisting in the creation of PowerPoint presentations, registering participants before and at the event, supporting the set up and take down of the workshop and any materials (food, chairs, AV, handouts). What you bring: You have good communication skills and speak English fluently (ability to speak and write French, an asset). You have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite or OpenOffice, and are comfortable with photo management. When & where: 1-3 times per week (based on availability) from 3pm-7pm, September 20th through to November 20th. The workshop locations will be at various schools in and around Halifax, Truro and Bridgewater. The workshop volunteer is welcome to carpool with the School Ground Greening Consultant to and from workshops, leaving from the Nova Scotia Department of Education and Early Childhood Development Office, 2021 Brunswick St, 4th floor, Halifax. Workshop preparation components can be done from home. How we’ll support you: You will receive a general Evergreen orientation with our Program Coordinator as well as on the job training and support with the School Ground Greening Consultant. Evergreen will also send you regular volunteer news to keep you in the loop. Perks: This is a great opportunity to become familiar with fundraising, planting and caring for trees, and how schools can engage with the Evergreen School Ground Greening program. Coffee/tea provided, along with reference letter, if requested. Next steps: Log in or create a volunteer profile here, to sign up for the role.
