We, at Atlantic Kite Festivals believe in bringing communities together by celebrating festivals. Our journey started in year 2013 where few of the friends started celebrating various events based on major festivals in South East Asia. By looking at participation from local communities we kept adding more and more events in our catalogue. One Day, Few kids came to our event, Halifax Colour Festival with kites and that’s where idea came from to start Kite Festivals in Atlantic Region. The plan was long due and we did our first ever Kite Festival at Citadel Hill in 2017. And in the same year we did another kite festival at Rissers Beach with Sand castle competition. After these two successful events and reviews from participants, we decided to start doing more festivals like this in Atlantic Canada. We, at Atlantic Kite Festival love to see smiles on kids faces when they see these huge kites in the air. It’s even fun to fly. We need your support in growing these festivals across Atlantic Regions. If you want us to come and organize an event in your community please let us know. We would be happy to come. Anchor Book Team |
|
For Youth By Youth Join a team of local haligonian’s as they share what they have created with the help of #RisingYouth Grants Leaders Today and www.mindyourmind.ca with the amazing support of Laing House and Heartwood Centre for Community Youth Development What: We have created a book Anchor. The book goes through a series of things, from journal prompts, drawing pages, calendars, self care tips, mood trackers and much more! In September of 2018, the mindyourmind team came to Halifax, NS to work with local youth through the Canada Service Corps initiative. The goal of the project was to co-create a mental health resource specific to the needs of HRM, as identified by the youth. Our beginning: mindyourmind worked with Heartwood Centre for Youth Community Development and Laing House to recruit youth who are passionate about mental health and being involved in their community. We had a two and a half day Design Studio followed by webinars. Over the course of the Design Studio and the subsequent webinars we were able to identify the top issues facing youth in Halifax. Following this, the group decided they wanted to create a video series and an interactive mental health workbook. Why? We recognize that mental health programs are not “one size fits all”. We wanted to provide youth with the opportunity to create a mental health resource that is specifically suited to the Halifax area. When resources are co-created and targeted they are more effective. Additionally this process provided the youth valuable skills and transferable experience they can utilize in the future. Now: Due to higher demand than expected we are looking to print more books and deal with incoming requests and deliveries. |
