Opportunity Description:

Good governance sets the course for a non-profit organization’s success – from its capacity to meet its mission and vision statements to its financial viability. Welcome Housing and Support Services is seeking new and diverse board members who are committed to advancing our mission and vision, support management and staff through a time of transition and growth, and provide excellent and highly effective governance. Our mission is to assist single individuals who have been homeless or at risk of homelessness to create and maintain their homes, and our vision is to ensure the competent, efficient, caring provision of safe, affordable, long-term housing to single men and women, and to be recognized as a valuable asset in the community. Welcome Housing is the third largest non-profit housing provider in HRM, and has been been doing this work for over thirty years. We provide deeply affordable housing to 78 single men and women, most of whom have experienced some combination of homelessness, addiction, and mental health issues. Two Housing Support Workers help men, women, and families leave homelessness or avoid homelessness, and our trustee program prevents homelessness by managing the finances for some of the most vulnerable members of our community.
