JDRF is the leading global organization funding type 1 diabetes (T1D) research. JDRF’s vision is to achieve a world without T1D and to turn type 1 into type none. We are the largest non-profit funder of T1D research in the world, with a mission to accelerate life-changing breakthroughs to cure, prevent and treat T1D and its complications. When you raise funds for research through local Nova Scotia events like the 2018 #JDRFWalk to Cure Diabetes, it enables us to support the best and brightest scientists in the field.

JDRF strives to help people at all ages and stages of the disease to live better, longer, healthier lives. These people are the reason JDRF exists, and remain at the forefront of everything we do.

For more information, and to learn all about the latest T1D research developments, self-management tips and advocacy efforts, please see our website at jdrf.ca.

I interviewed my dad on video in his final weeks. When I asked about his work and finding meaning through helping others, he responded, “I don’t think you can be focused on, ‘Oh gee, I want to make a difference.’ It has to be spontaneous. If it’s not…there’s some kind of egotistical thing going on. That’s a red flag. You hope you impact people on the deepest level you are capable of at the time. Sometimes you hit it, sometimes you don’t. You’re trying.
